Do your Clincher wheels have a rider weight limit?

FasTop Bike Clincher wheels have been thoroughly tested in all areas of road cycling. With field-testing on different terrains and lab tests for brake performance, FasTop Bike wheels have proven to be strong and durable,these strong wheels that are technically able to handle riders over 100kg just like all our models. However not all terrains are suitable for every rider when it comes to Full Carbon Clincher wheels. Depending on the combination of factors like rider weight,terrain and intensity the best suitable wheel set can be chosen. At FasTop Bike we are happy to help you with that choice when you contact us through: [email protected] or +86 139 5920 3940

Why choose a Control Version?

The Control wheels come with four additional spokes in the front wheel and rear wheel compared to the standard wheels. Our recommendation to choose a Control version is when the rider weight is around 90-95kg or more. The extra power that heavier riders are able to put onto the wheels is split over the additional spokes resulting in a stiff and rigid wheel set. The standard wheels are build with 20 spokes in the front and 24 spokes in the rear. Control wheel sets are build with 24 spokes in the front and 28 spokes in the rear.

How do I decide between 28holes vs. 32 holes?

There are many factors to consider when choosing hole count of your rim. If you are a heavier rider or a more aggressive rider,the 32H option will most likely be the fit for you as it will provide increased strength,as well as a better ride quality at a higher rider weight. If you are a light weight rider, and wheel weight is a large concern,then the 28H option will most likely be your fit.

What is more aero, FasTop Bike Clincher wheel or Tubular wheel?

Whether you are purchasing a Clincher or Tubular you will be pleased with the performance characteristics of either wheel. If you prioritize aerodynamics,stability,and easy tire changes then you should purchase Clinchers. If you prioritize light weight and a more lively ride quality then Tubulars will suit your preferences best.

What does "Handbuilt" mean in practice on FasTop Bike wheels?

It means quality, durability and longevity!

FasTop Bike laced wheels are built in such a manner that they stay true throughout their lifetime when used in normal conditions.

* Laced up by hand

* Stress relieving and spoke bending for correct alignment from hub to rim

* Trued by hand

* Spoke tension is measured in every spoke to ensure equal tension

We have master wheel builders who have years of experience in lacing and truing wheels.

These people are passionate about cycling and crazy about wheels. You could say that it's their oxygen. So you can imagine that they would do anything to prevent a wheel being released to the market of which they are not proud.

Are FasTop Bike wheels Shimano 11 speed compatible?

Yes, all our wheels are compatible up to 11 speed. They are also 8, 9, 10 speed compatible,then we include a small spacer for use with non 11 speed cassettes to upgrade the hub.

Is aerodynamic performance more important than weight savings?

Let's look at a few figures. Assume a rider uses a conventional bike over a 25 mile flat course time trial. He weighs 150 lb, his bike is another 20 lb, and he is producing 185 watts of power. The aero drag with this scenario would be approximately 6.5 lb using aero bars into a 2 mph headwind of between 0 and 5 degrees. With his standard bike, our rider's time would be around 1 hour 7 minutes and 38 seconds. If we reduced the weight of his bike by three pounds, that time would come down by just 3 seconds. However, swap the wheels to an aero design and the drag could be reduced to 6 lb. Even with the additional quarter pound weight of the new wheels, his time saving over 25 miles jumps dramatically to over 1 minute 30 seconds.

What tests are done on your wheels?

Our fundamental testing standard is EN 14781. In addition to that, our testing protocol is as follows: After molding and before wheelbuilding, we verify (with micrometers and a digital scale) that each rim’s roundness, lateral offset, and weight are within tolerances. We also test the braking surface width to ensure that the braking will be smooth and consistent. We then test a random sampling from each batch of rims for braking performance and rim stiffness in our digital testing lab. This a key part of the manufacturing process and is one of the reasons why our wheels perform so well. We run the wheel up to 30kph and then we apply a braking force and measure 7 performance variables, such as deceleration, stopping distance, and very importantly average and maximum rim temperature. By measuring these things we are able to continuously improve the braking performance of our wheels and their durability under heavy braking conditions. We test the stiffness of a section of rim laced to a spoke by applying a 3000 newton force to the spoke and measuring rim deflection in thousandths of a millimeter. This lets us optimize the stiffness of the rims, which results in more power transferred from the rider through the wheel into the road. During final wheel building our wheels are tested for all the common quality standards, including: Surface Finish and Blemish, Roundness, Lateral Offset, Braking Surface Width, Weight, and Maximum Spoke Tension.

How to apply a decal?

Application: Peal or gently scrap off all parts of the old decal. Clean the rim well with soap and water and then use rubbing alcohol or acetone to remove any residual adhesive, grime or grease. Slowly peal the backing off the decal, position the new decal over the rim and apply starting in the center. Lay the decal down lightly, so you can lift and reposition, if the orientation is wrong. Work the air bubbles from the center towards the outside. Use a squeegee applicator (PA-1 from 3M) to work the decal into the dimples. Orientation: Start 1/4 inch from the spoke bed. Place the first decal centered and opposite the valve hole. The center of the 2 remaining decals on that rim side will be 120 degrees from the first. The smaller valve hole decal is then placed in the center of the rim directly below the valve hole. No part of the decals should cover the brake tracks. Turn the rim over and repeat on the other rim side.

How to remove a decal?

If your decals are adhesive and not molded in, you can use a hair dryer to soften the glue, grab a corner and gently pull off, scrape the remainder off with your nails or a blunt popsicle stick, clean well with acetone or white spirits, allow to evaporate and apply the new decals. If the original decals are molded in, (use the thumbnail test to feel for an edge) you will have to purchase a set of decals and apply them over the top. Molded in decals cannot be removed without structural damage to the rim.

How do I mount the tire on my Tubular wheels?

You can find a comprehensive instruction on the Vittoria website(http://www.vittoria.com/faq/) or on the Schwalbe website(http://www.schwalbe.com/en/start.html). FasTop Bike does not recommend the use of adhesive rim tape for mounting tubular tires. Tubular tires are best fitted to the rim when glued with specific glue for carbon rims. Never sand a carbon rim!! This instruction only applies to alloy rims. Never use a metal tool to mount the tire!!
